Why is the U.S. flag “backwards” on military patches (upper rt vs left stars)?
I always seem to remember that the field of blue with the stars on the United States flag was oriented to the upper left hand corner of the flags I saw in school, flying from flagpoles, illustrated in books, etc. Recently I have seen flag patches attached to the shirts of members of the armed forces (the US Army, I believe) and these flags have the field of blue with the stars placed in the upper RIGHT hand corner. It looks backwards to me.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a meaning behind it? Is it because we are at war? Can anyone please help me understand this? Thank you for your help.
The flag on US military uniforms is worn on the right shoulder. The “reverse” signifies that the flag is moving forward in the wind. An easy way to remember this are the following phrases: “Always push forward” or “Always push ahead”.
